Cuttings Update

I posted earlier that I’d decided to make one more attempt at rooting rose cuttings this year and that I’d had some success. I mentioned a bubble cloner. I did make one despite one proponent of them telling me that he had no success with roses in it. I can now say I had very little success with the bubble cloner for rooting roses, as well. Less success, in fact, than using a humidity chamber.

So here I am almost at the end of the season and I have now 4 rooted rose cuttings. I inexplicably lost a couple that had been potted up for some time. The challenge now will be to nurse those baby plants through winter in the garage. I will be very glad to get them planted outside.

Tomorrow night we’ll finally have a freeze, about a month later than usual. (I’m not complaining about that!). The night after that we’ll have a hard freeze and that will be that for the roses. Before then I’m going to take a last few cuttings for the season.

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I posted. At various times in the garden I’ve thought to myself, “this is something I should write about” but by the time I was near a computer the thought had vanished. Poof! And so much has happened that I get overwhelmed trying to figure out where to start. That explains the past month of no posts.

So I guess I’ll just jump in with where I’m at. With the garden season coming to a crashing halt Wednesday night, I’ll have more time to sit at the computer.
